Il Progetto Ars et Natura

Nel corso degli ultimi anni un gruppo di pittori italiani si è riavvicinato all'arte naturalistica, che guarda al figurativo e che ha i suoi punti di riferimento nell'area artistica anglosassone e nordeuropea. Hanno così ripreso a lavorare dal vivo su animali selvatici, paesaggi, piante e fiori spontanei, portando nello zaino cannocchiali e binocoli, carta, colori e pennelli. Gli stessi artisti lavorano poi, in studio, all'elaborazione degli schizzi preparatori e degli acquerelli eseguiti "en plein air". E' da questa esperienza comune che è nato il movimento progettuale Ars et Natura, una sigla che nasce dal desiderio di coniugare attivamente Natura e Cultura. E portare all'esterno questo messaggio forte di conservazione e di riscoperta di valori pittorici ed estetici dimenticati tramite mostre, prodotti editoriali, il web. Una caratteristica che accomuna molti di questi pittori infatti è il coinvolgimento nella difesa dell'ambiente e della fauna selvatica: un impegno forte che li vede in prima linea anche nelle grandi associazioni ambientaliste come il Wwf, il Fondo mondiale per la natura. Il progetto Ars et Natura vede coinvolti attualmente dieci artisti fondatori (Fabio Ascenzi, Fabrizio Carbone, Livia Chioccarelli, Concetta Flore, Federico Gemma, Massimiliano Lipperi, Stefano Maugeri, Graziano Ottaviani, Marco Preziosi, Alessandro Troisi), ai quali si aggiungono, per ogni progetto, altri colleghi italiani e anche stranieri, come Anne Shingleton, Keith Brockie, Bruce Pearson, ecc. Tutti loro, da anni, si recano a dipingere la natura più intatta, dalla costa tirrenica in Lazio e Toscana all’Appennino abruzzese, da Ventotene alla Sardegna, e all'estero in Scozia, in Finlandia, in Cina, USA, in Nuova Zelanda, in Africa, alle Seychelles. Il loro lavoro è stato riconosciuto da istituzioni come il Museo Civico di Zoologia di Roma, il Museo Civico di Storia naturale di Genova, l’Acquario di Genova, il Bioparco di Roma, l’Ente Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, il Parco Regionale dei Boschi di Carrega di Parma, con mostre collettive, corsi, stage ed altre iniziative. Ars et Natura ha promosso il primo Raduno degli artisti naturalisti italiani. Suoi membri sono in giuria nei concorsi nazionali di pittura naturalistica e rappresentano la pittura naturalistica italiana all'estero alla mostra "The natural eye" della SWLA di Londra, al Festival del Carnet de voyage in Francia, "Focus on Nature" in NY ecc. L'ultimo progetto, "Ars et Natura Seychelles", porta una mostra di circa 90 opere daRoma alle Seychelles e poi Parigi, accompagnata da un libro interamente illustrato dagli artisti.

Italian Wildlife Artists, painters of the wonders of Nature: the Ars et Natura project. During the last few years a new reality has emerged in the Italian cultural scene: nature art. All over the country, visual artists have chosen to work from life in places of great natural beauty. They are illustrators, sculptors and painters, collaborators of Nature reserves and Parks, specialists in reproduction of plants, animals and environments, who instead of a camera carry in their backpack binoculars or telescopes, sketchbooks and art materials. Working together in the field, mostly in protected areas, studying animals, plants and environments from life, they share and compare the experience, encouraged and motivated by the excellent feedback received from their works, both when exhibited and when in print or on the web. Traveling and exhibiting abroad (Finland, Scotland, China, USA, New Zealand, Africa, Seychelles), they find in pristine environments that the relationship with wildlife can be the most direct and exciting. Back at the studio, they patiently recreate the magic of the infinite variety of shapes and colors that nature offers to our wonder. The result is "Ars et Natura", a Latin name that brings together artists that are both naturalists and conservationists, motivated by the belief that nature and culture can merge in mutual benefit and produce lasting results. The commitment and passion of the these Italian artists - naturalists has long been recognized and supported by major institutions, such as the Natural History Museum of Genoa, the Zoology Museum of Rome, Rome Biopark, the National Park of Abruzzo, who sponsored a series of exhibitions. Ars et Natura has promoted the first meeting of italian nature artists. Ars et Natura's members' works have appeared in magazines such as Airone, Gardenia, TV shows like Geo & Geo, National newspapers and foreign nature magazines. They represent italian wildlife art at "The Natural eye" annual exhibition of the SWLA in London, at the Carnet de voyage festival in France, at the Focus on Nature exhibition in NY. Their members are jury in national nature art competitions. Ars et Natura Seychelles, the last project, is an exhibition of approximately 90 pieces touring from Rome to Seychelles and Paris, accompanied with a rich, fully illustrated art book on Seychelles' natural highlights.
